Thirty-Ninth Keychain-[Written]
It's that time of year again, isn't it? For the snow and everything...it's kind of nice. Just means it's closer to Christmas.
How many worlds are there that actually get snow? My world never did.
[Filtered to Xion]
Hey...I'm ready to talk about...whatever it was you wanted to tell me.
[Filtered to Axel]
We need to talk.
[Filtered to Sora]
...have you met Xion?
[Filtered, this is gonna suck]
No.
[ but she takes a deep breath anyway. ]
Roxas, remember what I said before, about how I was borrowing power from you? You were getting weaker...
One day I ran away because I knew I'd only end up hurting you and Axel if I stayed. I got to Twilight Town and Namine was there, waiting for me... she helped explain everything. She was so nice. But right before we could go see Sora ... Axel showed up. We ended up fighting, and I ... I lost. I guess he took me back to the castle. I don't remember too clearly what happened after that, except...
[ pause. pausepausepause. ]
I found you on the clock tower, in Twilight Town. That's ... when I overheard you saying something. "Where did I think I could go?" ... that's how I knew you left.
[ she pauses again, clearly evading the point. ]
[Filtered, it might end badly]
[Filtered, oh, very, which is the tragic part]
[Filtered, kids, stop being sad and non-existent]
[Filtered, but they never wiiiiiiiiiiiiiill]
[Filtered, =(]
[Filtered]
[ okay, Xion. you can do this. ]
I was so full of memories by then ... Sora's memories. It ... it changed me. I ended up looking ... like him. Exactly like him.
When I found you on the clock tower ... I was there for one reason. To put an end to everything. So I pretended like I was playing my part ... playing the puppet for real. My purpose wasn't just to duplicate your powers, Roxas ... it was to absorb them completely. Then ... then I'd be an exact copy of Sora.
I made you fight me... I even transformed into this weird armored thing. It was a really long fight...
[ with a tiny, sad, humorless laugh ] But you were great, Roxas. You still beat me. That was what I wanted all along. And that's ... that's how I died. I faded away in your arms.
That's the very last thing I remember happening before I woke up in the forest.
[Filtered]
...so what you're saying is I killed you?
[Filtered]
[Filtered]
[Filtered]
It just had to be that way. There wasn't any other choice. Besides, I wanted to go back to Sora. And that's what happened, when I faded. At least, that's what was supposed to happen.
[Filtered]
...so the upper ranks, they knew? Xemnas and everybody?
[Filtered]
Xemnas must have known. I think Saix knew, too. If anyone else knew ... I'm not sure. Axel figured it out, eventually, but he didn't know from the start any more than I did.
[Filtered]
...I don't get it. Why would they...
[Filtered]
Why would they what?
[Filtered]
[Filtered]
[Filtered]
[Filtered]
I'm just guessing, though. Xigbar would know. Either way, there's nothing to be sorry for.
[Filtered]
...you did tell him, right?
[Filtered]
... tell him which part?
[Filtered]
[Filtered]
No, Roxas. I haven't told him. I wasn't going to.
[Filtered]
[Filtered]
I didn't want either of you to know. It's too much, you were never supposed to remember in the first place, it's all my fault anyway, and...
And I've been scared, Roxas. Really scared. I didn't think I was ever going to have to explain ... any of this.
