So Luceti...what exactly makes a person real or not? What qualities and characteristics mean that a person exists instead of just being a weird figment? Trust me, it's important.

Yeah, I do. He told me how he came to be. [frank, and in a tone that doesn't find this perturbing. Firmly] If you're question was about someone like him, I'd say he's perfectly human-- for all his circumstance.

Even though Ratatosk more or less shares Emil's body in a way? Even though some people would consider Emil fake because he was created?

I can see why people might think of it that way, or have a different name to call him by.

But the person I've spoken to very clearly fears, and hopes, and loves like any being with a human heart-- regardless of being "created". After all, every living thing is created by something.

So in the end, those other facts are just details to the truth of his existence. [it's clear in his voice that this is a subject he's had to give long thought to, in the past.]

...trust me, I get that. Probably more than people would think. And in Emil's case, you're right. I didn't even know that he was anything less than human when I first met him. If you don't think about him in terms of Ratatosk, he's just normal. And that means he's real? [When using Emil as an example, this makes a lot more sense than trying to use himself or Xion or Repliku, even.]

I'd say yes, but... [and he leans forward over the journal] Why this emphasis on the word "real"?

Depends what it is that matters to you. "Real" is just a word we use to define our experience of life.

It matters in relation to actually existing and staying in existence. What makes a person their own person so they don't disappear?

Anyway. What does realness have to do with disappearing?

For some people it has everything to do with it. If you're not real, you're going to disappear in place of the real thing. So...how do you determine that?

So-- what you're actually saying is that in your world, if you come into being a certain way... you're destined to eventually disappear.

And you're concerned about a particular person's fate-- that they're going to disappear. [He drops the term entirely, since as far as Ginko's concerned, this has absolutely nothing to do with being "real".]

You're destined to not be whole, and in order to be whole you have to disappear. That's what I'm saying.

...but yeah. That's what I'm concerned about. Not just one person, a couple of people. Does that make more sense now?

Yeah, it does. But it sounds more like an unfortunate fate, than a matter of really being alive.

--[and now this is starting to sound familiar] is it something that can't be avoided?

Not really. Once a person's born from somebody else, they're going to be incomplete until they rejoin their Other, or until they're destroyed. That's just how it is. [Eh. May as well just keep talking about Nobodies in particular.]

I see. [quietly] So it's just something they have to accept.

As far as I know, there's never really been a way to change that.
