Fifty-Eighth Keychain - [Voice/Action]

[Housemates will probably find Roxas in the kitchen with newspapers on the table, a palate of paint, some paper...and a very disgruntled cat who doesn't understand why his human wants him to dip his pretty paws in the wet colors.]

Nea, come on. You were doing really well, too. You can't just give up now.

[There's a hiss from the cat before he swats at the paint palate. Roxas sighs and shakes his head, giving up for now. Artists can be pretty temperamental, after all. Instead he'll focus himself on the journal, opening it up and idly leafing through it. His conversation with Naoto's been on his mind, and he has an important question.]

So...what's the main difference between being a boy and being a girl? I mean, girls can do things boys can, right? So what difference does it make? [He doesn't quite get why people were upset with Naoto for being a girl detective, that's all.] Answer me that.

And answer me this: how come everyone else got a horse last week except for me? Total bummer.

I've got something cool to show you, but you have to go to the battle dome with me.

Do you need anything? [He's worried about you, bff dos. He's in overprotective mode now.]

Why should people 'get' horses anyway?

[Ponies aren't pets. B|]

Well, there are the physical differences to take into account.

[And not responding to the horse bit because he'd rather obliterate that event from his mind.]

That depends on whether you mean the societal or physical distinctions between sexes -- or another type entirely.

. . . Due to biological differences, men are stronger than most women by nature. This is often the case whether or not they share a similar background. On the other hand, women are known to be more agile, as well as flexible, due to their generally slimmer figures.

To that end, among other factors, men have traditionally been graced with what are considered to be dominant roles in society. As it's a widely accepted thought that women are superior nurturers who are more in tune with their emotions and the emotions of those around them, they're expected to exhibit domestic behavior. Thus, the "rugged" men tend to be the leaders while the "sensitive" women provide support.

-- physical and physiological [there's a brief pause as he debates on what word to use] abnormalities notwithstanding.

While women can indeed perform the same tasks as men and vice versa, the aforementioned mindset has left a strong impression on numerous civilizations. And there are things only the other sex may be able to do to their full extent. You could say it's the seemingly small differences that create the larger gaps between the sexes based on double standards.

Of course, others may think differently. The subject at hand involves a great deal of objective and subjective reasoning.

[... There's like a million ways he could answer that question. Buuut he's not getting into that.]

Well, it's not like everyone got a horse. I mean, I just got stuck with clothes!

... You know, if you're going to ask something like that you should be prepared to get some crude answers from people here. [ her own voice sounds a little deadpan. ]

Oho?

[Ignoring all that other stuff yes we are.]

[ Tenten offers a brief nod and a hmph for all of Roxas's reasoning. Someone has a right idea. ]

That's right. The only difference lies in biology. The rest of the differences are created and forced by society with stereotypes. Because of this, many people believe women can't be as strong or adept as men in hand to hand combat, or they can't be as tough as men. This isn't true, so it may not count unless you think that because people widely believe in this crap, it makes a "difference". [ The last part is said with a slightly mocking tone towards those that do think it's a difference. ]

[Larxene . . . ?]

That should depend on the people and the circumstances surrounding them. Some are more willing to mold their opinions than others.

Oh, so you remembered. Not that I'm surprised.

[She is pretty unforgettable, in her not-so-humble opinion.]

Anyway, the real trick to fighting dragons is to give 'em a good kick in the face.

[Except that kinda backfired when she did it.]

I believe that while the differences set the two sexes apart, we are essentially on equal grounds as everything balances out.

Why do you ask?

[Is that how it is . . . ]

This sounds like a matter that'd be better kept between the two of you. Have you talked to her about it any more?

[Naoto can't say she's particularly surprised that Roxas is still thinking about their conversation though it is a little strange. No one's ever really been this concerned about it--except for Souji of course since he had to deal with her problems for the longest time. So in a way, it also makes her happy]

Have you received any answers that satisfy you yet?

It probably has to do with sex or something. Because women carry and give birth to babies, that automatically makes them weak or something, maybe it has to do with something stupider like penetration and the penetrated is always the weaker one so it just carried onto gender norms. It's rather stupid either way - to base something off of primitive antics every other animal does. [ she sighs, a bit irritated at memories of being shafted because she was a kunoichi and not a medic nin ): ]
