He had been mulling this over for a while now, and he still wasn't any closer to getting an answer. ...man...Axel would know. Roxas really does miss the redhead sometimes, but each day's getting a little better. Sora, too, but that's an even longer process. It always helped to have something else to throw himself into though, and this was the perfect example.]

Um...hi. [Well, it's a start.] So...where I come from, birthdays aren't really something that are celebrated. Sure, we kind of get older, but nobody really acknowledges it. There's no big celebration, no presents, nothing like that. I've been here for over three years and I still don't really get it, I guess.

...anyway, there's this girl. She's a really good friend of mine, and I want to do something nice for her for her birthday. It's at the end of the week. I know that doesn't give me a lot of time, but it's really important it's something special. I guess what I'm asking is...who has a good idea? [Because he sure as hell doesn't.] Thanks in advance.

Weather's better today. Maybe I should get out of the library for a while. [Think, think, think...oh!] Hey, Luke! Wanna test out those roller blades? Get back to me, I'm bringing them outside anyway.

A present for a girl, hm? Well, what sort of things does she like? Does she wear jewelry?

[He thinks for a moment. ...well...he'd never seen her wear jewelry.] Not that I know of. She's a detective, so she's into things most other girls aren't. [He's going to leave out that she spent a long time pretending to be a boy...] But I don't want to get her a book or something.

A detective... You mean she investigates crimes? [Must be boring in a place like Luceti, where there are hardly any crimes to solve...]

Investigates crimes, researches, that sort of thing. She was a detective back in her world, so it all sort of carried over. It's pretty quiet here most of the time though, but when things get weird she's pretty quick to get on it.

Hm... [She thinks for a moment, before a bright smile appears on her face.]

Oh! Oh, I've got it. If you want to make it special, you have to give her a scavenger hunt! One that will lead her from one clue to another, until she eventually finds you and her present!

[...] That's actually not a bad idea. She loves solving clues. It's be perfect for her...but I still don't know exactly what to get her as a real present.

Someone who's closer to her may be able to give a better suggestion for that, I suppose. It's the thought that counts, and the more personal the thought, the better it counts.

Maybe I'll ask her best friend. Rise seems to know a lot of things about her that might help...but I never would have thought of a scavenger hunt on my own. Thanks a lot.

...let's say it was your birthday instead. What kind of present would you want from your friends?

All I'd want is for them all to come celebrate my birthday with me. Though, I suppose I wouldn't say no to a nice brooch, or... A necklace. Or perhaps an interesting novel to read.

[Which were all ideas that Roxas had already shot down for his friend, so... That's no good.]

[It's still sort of amusing though. And they're not bad ideas, but he'd have to be really creative with Naoto. Creativity is more Kairi and Xion's department anyway.]

It all just seems so simple. Maybe that's why I don't get why birthdays are such a bit deal.

It isn't the presents that are a big deal. It's showing that you care.

Yes, of course, but a birthday is... Well, it's like Valentine's Day, I suppose. An extra reminder, and a celebration that they were born that many years ago.

I don't really get Valentine's Day either, but that's a different story. [What Cheria's saying does make sense, at least.] Okay, okay, fair enough. I guess I should be celebrating the day she was born because without it she wouldn't be here at all.

Girls are better at knowing what girls want, I suppose. It'd be tougher if I had to come up with a present for a boy.

[Speaking of which, what should she get Asbel for his next birthday? A new coat? A sword? No, they're going steady now, so it needs to be more personal than that. ... Oh good lord she has no idea.]

Ah, well, I wouldn't entirely know what to get for a boy... [Comics? And Hubert liked boats when he was young, but that doesn't mean all boys like boats...]
