[When the feed clicks on, there's a few moments of silence as Roxas thinks of how to phrase his question. He had been mulling this over for a while now, and he still wasn't any closer to getting an answer. ...man...Axel would know. Roxas really does miss the redhead sometimes, but each day's getting a little better. Sora, too, but that's an even longer process. It always helped to have something else to throw himself into though, and this was the perfect example.]

Um...hi. [Well, it's a start.] So...where I come from, birthdays aren't really something that are celebrated. Sure, we kind of get older, but nobody really acknowledges it. There's no big celebration, no presents, nothing like that. I've been here for over three years and I still don't really get it, I guess.

...anyway, there's this girl. She's a really good friend of mine, and I want to do something nice for her for her birthday. It's at the end of the week. I know that doesn't give me a lot of time, but it's really important it's something special. I guess what I'm asking is...who has a good idea? [Because he sure as hell doesn't.] Thanks in advance.

Weather's better today. Maybe I should get out of the library for a while. [Think, think, think...oh!] Hey, Luke! Wanna test out those roller blades? Get back to me, I'm bringing them outside anyway.

Has she been having a difficult time?

Not really difficult but I know she likes to keep busy.

There's always plenty to be done here. I sort of like that part.

Were things quiet back in your own world?

I was usually busy, with studying and my career.

What was your career?

I was a doctor. That's why I work at the clinic here as well.

Then you must be really smart.

[For a second, modesty almost takes off and compels her to downplay it completely. But she's had time to be more comfortable with herself, and after a second, she smiles.]

I've also worked hard. I'm proud of what I've done, but I'm not that special.

Being a doctor isn't something that's easy though, no matter how hard you work.

I had a lot of help and encouragement from my friends. From Mama, too; she's a doctor as well.

So it runs in the family. That's good...you had someone to look up to and everything.

Mm. I wanted to make her proud of me. I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Then I realized, I had my own reasons for wanting it, too: I wanted to be able to help the people who needed it.

[More precisely, she'd wanted to be needed; but that's a more selfish admission. And in following Mama, she draws the line at becoming so burdened by work that she can't focus on her family.]

It's a good goal to have. I'm glad you reached it.

Thank you. What about you? You must have dreams for the future, too.

I haven't really thought about it. I already know what my future's like back home.

Is it a good one?

It's...it's something that's going to help someone else. That's what counts.

[Somehow she gets the feeling there's something about it that makes him unsure. She thinks of her own life, all their lives, sacrificed to try to protect Earth; and she thinks of Usagi sacrificed to save them all.]

Could it be it's something that's still scary to you right now?

I'm not scared. [And he's not anymore. He's officially accepted his fate of merging back with Sora and keeping the worlds balanced. It still doesn't make it any easier knowing he won't ever have his own life outside of Luceti.] It's complicated.

If it's alright to talk about, I'll listen to you.

It's not really that...it's just something that's hard to explain to people that aren't from our world.

I have to rejoin my original self.

[She... actually does understand, but only in the most simple and basic way. She had to regain - at least some - of the memories of Mercury to be whole in this life. She had to recapture a bit of her former self.

She suspects what Roxas means is quite different, but it's a starting point.]
