I only have one simple question for everybody.

[Which is a surprise in and of itself. For Roxas, who generally asks lots of questions and pokes and prods at everything, simple isn't exactly something that fits in his vocabulary.]

What do you do when you've run out of things to do? [A pause.] I mean I've been here for 1,558 days. My cat refuses to keep up his painting and skateboarding lessons. ~~Axel's still gone, and Xion has Luke.~~ Time...moves really fast, and I guess I'm just now noticing.

At least it's close to Christmas again. I've really grown to like the snow and the holiday, maybe almost as much as Sora. Heh. All right, I don't think anyone can love Christmas as much as he can. That'll be something to keep me busy for a while, but what then? I think I've read almost every book in the library by now. Is there more that I can learn still, or does it all just stop?

Anyway, I don't really expect an answer, but I'd appreciate it if anyone had some advice.

It depends on what I am capable of at that time. Normally, I work at the flower shop and help maintain the Memory Garden, and I heal when I can.

[There's a brief pause as she smiles to herself.] I suppose it can also be said that my greatest task is maintaining morale.

[A beat.] Currently, I am attempting to learn as much about the recent developments in Luceti and the world beyond as I can, to see if there is anything in my experiences I can use to help improve the situation here. So far, I have been making little progress.

[...Grune gets much wordier when she has the full range of her memories.]

The first three make the most sense, but it's the last one that I never thought you'd be interested in.

I suppose it would seem unusual to you, as we have only spoken when I have been without my memories. However, now that I have regained them, my interests have changed to a certain degree.

[Hopefully that makes a touch more sense.]

[Yep. Lots more sense.]

When did this happen?

Not quite two weeks ago. I requested a mission I could not possibly have carried out in what is my usual state for Luceti, and so the Malnosso removed the seal from my memories. They have yet to return it.

Do you think maybe they won't ever return the seal?

It is possible, but doubtful. The last time they removed the seal, they soon returned it. I have no reason to believe they will act otherwise this time.

You never know...maybe it'll be a Christmas present from them or something. Unless you want the seal back.

I do. I am not meant to have my memories unsealed at this time. I am uncertain of what the effect may be if I remain in this state.

But why would that be bad? Wouldn't you want to keep your memories to know everything?

[A pause.]

The matter is a bit more complicated than it might seem on the surface. Being in possession of the full extent of my memories can be damaging to a world if it is not sufficiently mature. I am uncertain of the status of this planet, but I would prefer to err on the side of caution.

...you're very brave, you know that, Grune?

That is kind of you, Roxas, but I am simply doing what must be done.

No, I know. Trust me, I get it. I've done that, too. That doesn't change anything though.

[It would be rude to press too far to contradict him, no matter what her feelings are on the matter. And so she simply writes:] Thank you.

While I am in possession of my memories, is there any matter you wish to discuss with me?

[She's taking full advantage of her memories. Who knows when they will return again--and who will be here when they do?]

...I guess I just want to know if you're safe. If you will be safe. I want to know what it all means if it's something you can tell me. [He means back home, of course.]

[...Now that is a difficult question to answer. She does not wish to lie to him, but she also does not wish to burden him with the truth. Very few know that her stay on Melfes is only temporary, and she would prefer to keep matters that way.

Finally, she writes:]

I am as safe as I may be, given my purpose. I am meant to fight against a woman named Schwartz, who wishes to eliminate Melfes from having ever existed. When I regain my memories outside of Luceti, as close to the appointed time as possible, I will be able to do so.

I didn't know you had a set purpose, too. I kind of wish I had known sooner. Does that bother you?

In what way? That I have my purpose or that you and my other friends remain unaware of it?

The first part.

It does not. On the contrary, it is my sole reason for existing. To have no purpose would be far worse for me.

Even if it wasn't a purpose you'd want?

I understand that your question is rhetorical, but what I do or do not wish has no bearing upon my existence. If there was no reason for me to exist, I would not be. I am [A brief pause.] somewhat different from most people.

I think "somewhat" is kind of an understatement. But I guess you're right...it's just weird to think about considering--[Well, considering that he kind of got his own free will for a while before he had to go and merge with Sora again. Kind of like Xion kind of developed her own free will instead of being a puppet.]--some things that I've seen. That's all.

[Now that pause was interesting, and worth a gentle press--though nothing more than that. If there's one thing Grune can respect, it's privacy.]
