[Naturally the first thing that crosses his mind then is what Bella said about him turning her, but he quickly tries to get rid of that because she said not to think about it in front of Edward. It's not that he doesn't think it's a good idea, he just doesn't quite understand] Rosalie told me that you're vegetarian vampires, so that threat's pretty hollow.

We all have our accidents every now and then. Bella came very, very close to being dinner multiple times. I was convinced she had a death wish.

Not drinking from humans isn't as easy for us as it is for a human to stop eating meat. We call ourselves vegetarians, but it really isn't such an accurate comparison. We're designed to kill, fully equipped with special hunting abilities, including a particularly acute sense of smell. Resisting human blood is against our nature. Any average human still holds a draw, and depending on the need at the time it can hurt both physically and mentally. Sometimes there's a human that smells...better than the rest.



One human could send that need into a hyperdrive that is nearly impossible for the particular vampire they're affecting to control. It's rare, but...

She doesn't smell like that to everybody and we've all had a lot of practice. I would never let anything happen to her.
